DANNY Welbeck could add to Sunderland’s Ghanaian contingent with the Black Stars aiming to secure the striker’s international allegiance.
The on-loan Manchester United striker has earned nine caps for the England U21s and remains open to the possibility of forcing his way into the senior set-up.
England boss Fabio Capello is thought to have been ready to include Welbeck in his squad for the friendly in Denmark last week until the Manchester-born striker was ruled out through hamstring and knee problems.
But Ghana, who made an unsuccessful attempt to woo Welbeck two years ago, are hoping to secure the services of the 20-year-old, who qualifies through his parents.

Danny Welbeck was strongly rumoured to have been wanted by Fabio Capello for the last England squad, but was quickly ruled out of the running through injury.
The 20 year-old has been in terrific form for the Black Cats this season, scoring 6 league goals in 20 games.
That is especially impressive when one considers that some of those appearances have been from the bench, and that he hasn’t always been played up front by Steve Bruce – particularly before Darren Bent was sold to Aston Villa.
It is understandable that Ghana want him, of course, but should he continue to flourish and grow yet further at Manchester United next season, he could be a wonderful player for both his club – and England.
