Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard believes tomorrow’s FA Cup game against Crawley Town is another chance to show Sir Alex Ferguson he can replace Edwin Van Der Sar.
The Danish international is expected to make his second start for the Red Devils after his debut in the previous round away at Southampton.
But Lindegaard insists he is not worried with the constant rumours linking United with a list of big-name goalkeepers from Europe and the 28-year-old will concentrate on establishing himself at Old Trafford.
“Rumours have been normal to me since last summer, since the first time someone wrote about me coming to Manchester United,” Lindegaard told the club’s website.
“You can’t do anything about it, so it won’t help me to let them sap energy from me.
“During the first couple of months of speculation about United and other clubs, I’d go to training in the morning, go home, lie on my couch and stare at the ceiling running through what would happen.
“It became normal and now rumours don’t affect me at all. It’s the best and biggest job for a goalkeeper in the world.
“It’s the job everybody wants: being number one for Manchester United. Small kids want it, the biggest goalkeepers in the world want it. And I want it.”
