Barcelona will this summer attempt to lure Arsenal attacker Samir Nasri to the Nou Camp. Pep Guardiola has set his sights on the French international as a number one target for the Catalan giants as they look to bolster their starting eleven.
The La Liga champions have of course been consistently linked with a move to bring former youth team graduate Cesc Fabregas back to the club but Guardiola appears to have admitted defeat on that score and appears to see more value in a move for 23 year old Nasri as a player he feels can improve his first team options.
For the past two or three years Fabregas has been linked with a return to Barcelona but it would be difficult to see where he could fit into the club’s regular starting line up whereas Guardiola appears to see Nasri as an optimal player to boost his attacking areas.
Samir Nasri arrived at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2008 and after some false dawns and injury concerns the former Marseille man is arguably in the best form of his career to date. This season he has added the ability to be more consistent in front of goal to his many talents and the intelligent attacking midfielder has netted 14 times, more than his combined total in his previous two seasons at the North London club.
On Wednesday night the adaptable Frenchman put in a marvellous performance on his return from being sidelined and it was a display that has piqued Guardiola’s interest, so much so that he is willing to make an offer for the £35m rated Gunners man.
Nasri has expressed his intention to sit down with Arsenal and thrash out a new long term contract in the summer but Barcelona will hope to nab him before he puts pen to paper.
