Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli is keen on signing Arsenal left back Armand Traore this summer. The young French Under 21 international is currently on loan at Juventus and has fallen down the Gunners pecking order and the Anfield transfer supremo wants to bring the youngster to Merseyside to help resolve the club’s left sided defensive concerns.
21 year old Parisian Traore arrived at Arsenal in 2006 from Monaco but has struggled to break into the club’s first team and has been sent out on loan to first Portsmouth and then to Juventus in order to give the youngster valuable first team football. The emergence of England international Kieran Gibbs has further hampered his chances of winning a place in the Emirates set up.
The emergence of Martin Kelly on the scene at right back has forced Liverpool’s big money signing Glen Johnson to step in as a makeshift left back a role he has performed fairly well, however Kenny Dalglish and Comolli have been looking into potential new signings to help bring in a more natural fit.
Damien Comolli is well aware of the talent Traore possesses both in going forward but also in defence, the Frenchman also has previous ties with Arsenal and Arsene Wegner and this may assist in the process of trying to sign a player who appears to have little hope of making it at Arsenal, not least because as well as young England man Gibbs, there is a certain Gael Clichy also preventing progress.
Liverpool left backs Emiliano Insua and Paul Konchesky are currently on loan at Galatasaray and Nottingham Forest respectively and are unlikely to return to the club, especially as the young Argentine international is only really still at the club because his proposed move to Fiorentina last summer fell through. Brazilian veteran Fabio Aurelio is thought to be a player the club deems as back-up.
