Manchester United defender Patrice Evra will face an army of hostile French fans when he faces Olympique Marseille on Wednesday.
The left-back, who signed a new three-year deal to stay Old Trafford, will return to France for the first time since going on strike during last summer’s World Cup.
Evra received a five match ban for his part in the incident but still awaits his call-up back into the national team.
But former Marseille coach and player Jean Fernandez expects Evra to be the target of the fans frustrations during the game.
“This will be his first game in France since the World Cup and the crowd are certainly going to be booing him,” Fernandez said.
“Didier Deschamps (Marseille coach) can ask his players to provoke Evra to the maximum so that he fouls and ends up getting a card.
“If that happens, Evra will not be able to defend as effectively.
“That could be decisive as his aggression in winning the ball – and winning it back – is so important in his game.”
