Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes the English clubs are set to dominate Europe again this season.

Having supplied six finalists in five years, the Premier League side’s endured a miserable campaign last season as no representative progressed to the semi-finals.

But with this season’s final at Wembley, the pressure is on for English clubs to make the showpiece.

So far all the Premier League teams have won the first legs of their respective ties.

Tottenham and Arsenal beat AC Milan and Barcelona last week, while Chelsea recorded an easy 2-0 win over Copenhagen.

Ferguson takes his Manchester United team into the Stade Velodrome to face Olympique Marseille and is optimistic about English chances.

“I am not sure you could call it domination at the moment because we are only just into the last 16,” said Ferguson.

“But in the last four years English teams have been very powerful. The success rate for getting through to the latter stages is very good and it could happen again.

“The Premier League is very tough, with a lot of talented players. That has created a level over the last seven or eight years that is very difficult to match.”
