The form book goes out of the window with Pakistan and Sri Lanka both able to destroy any team while frustrating in equal measure.

These two passionate, cricket-mad countries will no doubt serve up a treat.

For both sides, this is the start of the real tournament.

Their first games were so one-sided, both teams will probably brush them off as warm-ups. Sri Lanka crushed Canada by 210 runs and Pakistan eased past Kenya by 205.

But this will be a much tighter game. Pakistan has gone from strength to strength since the match-fixing controversies of last year and have regained their team ethic.

Sri Lanka know under any circumstances do not take Pakistan lightly. And will look to prove their pre-tournament billing as genuine contenders.

Team News

Pakistan: Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal, Younus Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Abdur Rehman, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar.

Pakistan went into their last game with a full-strength side and the inclusion of Abdur Rehman was justified. He will remain in the side with the likes of Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul.

The batsmen are in good nick, scoring four half centuries, but the Sri Lankan bowling will be a sterner test.

Sri Lanka: Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Chamara Kapugedera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Ajantha Mendis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Thilan Samaraweera, Upul Tharanga.

Sri Lanka will also look to go with the same batting line-up but there could be a change or two in the bowling. If Lasith Malinga is fit he will make a comeback meaning Nuwan Kulasekera with his three-wicket haul could make way for him.

Rangana Herath could be given a chance in place of Ajantha Mendis given his record is better against Pakistan than Mendis.

Prediction

Sri Lanka will be strong but Pakistan have enough mercurial talent to turn them over. Spin will be key for containment in the middle overs and Sri Lanka posess the best spin wizards. Pakistan to lose – just.

Key Men

Pakistan will need one of their two openers to play a big one – Mohammad Hafeez or Ahmed Shehzad.

Sri Lanka will depend on their pace bowlers, Malinga and Perera to get the better of their opposition.
