Liverpool have earmarked a move for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young this summer as the Anfield side place the England international at the head of their spending plans. Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli see the former Watford man as the ideal answer to their lack of creativity on the wings and will hope to beat other interested parties to his signature.
The 25 year old Villa Park man has refused to discuss a new contract until the end of the season, which would leave Young with just a year left on his current deal and this has led to concerns that he may try to force a move away from the club he joined for a fee of £9.75m just over four years ago.
Liverpool have tried a number of players on the wings with little or no success. Joe Cole, Maxi, Milan Jovanovic and Dirk Kuyt have failed to inspire the club’s management and as a result they are now looking for a more natural winger and believe Ashley Young would be the right man for the job.
Now in his fifth season at Aston Villa the Stevenage born wide man has seen his side go from top six chasers to a club fighting to stay clear of the drop zone and the likes of Tottenham and Man United are also said to be keen on snapping up a player who creates a great deal of scoring opportunities as well as grabbing his own fair share of goals from coming in from wide areas.
