Barcelona defender Carles Puyol is winning his race to be fit for the crunch Champions League tie with Arsenal.
The Catalan captain has not played since January because of knee injury, missing the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates in the last 16 first-leg tie.
The 32-year-old is back in regular training and could be fit to face Real Zaragoza this weekend, but is unlikely to be risked.
The importance of Puyol to Barcelona is highlighted even more with fellow centre-back Gerard Pique missing the game through suspension.
But the former Manchester United player is confident the Nou Camp legend will make next Tuesday’s match despite his own disappointment.
“I am totally gutted to miss it,” he said to Spanish media.
“But I’m an optimist and I think Carles will be ready – he still has a few days ahead to get fit.
“If I had to bet, I would bet that he would be ready for the game against Arsenal.”
