Liverpool are reportedly ready to make a move to sign Manchester City keeper Shay Given if Spanish international Pepe Reina is lured away from Anfield. Even though the 28 year old keeper is tied to a long term contract there is concern that if the Merseyside club fails to secure Champions League football for the second season in a row then he may force an exit with Manchester United and Arsenal both reportedly interested.
Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli have earmarked a move for Eastlands bench warmer Given as an ideal replacement for Reina and the Irish international would presumably jump at the chance of a move to Liverpool after finding himself frozen out of the first team by England goalie Joe Hart.
£8m rated Given has not played a minute of Premier League football this term and has been restricted to Carling Cup and Europa League action and the 34 year old former Newcastle United man does not want to spend another season at his age waiting for the Man City number one to get injured in order to get a game.
Liverpool are putting contingency plans in place in much the same way as they did when Fernando Torres expressed his desire to move to Chelsea which left the Merseyside club having to act speedily to bring in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll and this summer they intend to be prepared for the worst.
