Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will attempt to bring AS Roma defender Philippe Mexes to the Emirates this summer.
The French international is out of contract at the end of the season and is looking for a move away from the Stadio Olimpico.
Serie A giants AC Milan were favourites to sign him but vice-president Adriano Galliani said he has had no contact with the player.
“Philippe Mexes to AC Milan? He is followed by half of Europe,” he said to RaiDue.
“There is not only us after him. But now we’re not going to disturb him at this time of the season.”
Wenger wants to take advantage of his rivals lethargic attitude and hopes to sign the 28-year-old.
The Gunners boss is after an experienced defender with injury doubts over Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou, and concerns over the form of Sebastien Squillaci.
