Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder David Edwards will miss the next month of the club’s battle against relegation with a back injury.
The 25-year-old suffered a stress reaction in his lumbar spine in the 4-0 win over Blackpool.
He also missed the 3-3 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and has been ordered to rest by the head of Wolves’ medical department Steve Kemp.
“Dave complained of lower back stiffness after the Blackpool result and as a result was scanned, which showed up the stress reaction in his lumbar spine,” Kemp said to the club’s website.
“With these findings it is not worth risking him carrying on playing with the injury as it could develop into something more serious.
“It is actually fortunate that we have found the problem quite early, and we now intend to manage the injury by treating Dave over the next month after which we will re-assess.”
Edwards has made 15 appearances in the Premier League for Wolves this season and has been at Molineux since 2008.
