Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas admits he was injured for most of the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

The 23-year-old played despite worries over a hamstring injury he picked up against Stoke City last month.

Many fans may wish he had stayed on the sidelines after gifting the ball to the La Liga champions to score their first goal in the 3-1 win over the Gunners.

Fabregas has now confirmed, what observers already knew, that he aggravated the injury after 15 minutes but managed to play on before being substituted in the second-half.

The World Cup winner is now doubtful for Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Manchester United but is awaiting scans to determine how serious the injury is.

“It was a shame because I felt really good to start with,” he told TVE. “But after 15 minutes I felt a pain and I knew it was over for me.

“The desire to play allowed me to continue and get through but then I had to change.”
