Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia says he has nothing to prove to his critics and wants to help the club win a trophy.
The 33-year-old is expected to reclaim his number one position following the injuries to Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski.
Arsenal fans have constantly bemoaned Almunia’s ability, claiming they will never win the league with the Spaniard in goal.
But Almunia says his record speaks for itself and believes a long run in the team will help him re-discover his best form, starting with the FA Cup trip to Manchester United.
“I have nothing to prove to anyone,” Almunia said.
“I have another year left on my contract with Arsenal and I have to play a few games now and they will help me to get back to my best again.
“I’ve had a difficult period with injuries and without playing. But I’ve taken it calmly. Now I have to play and do what I can.”
