AC Milan are ready to test Newcastle’s resolve with a £10m bid for left-back Jose Enrique in the summer.
The Spain international is yet to sign a contract extension on his deal which runs out in June 2012 and has been strongly linked with a move away from the club.
Liverpool are also reportedly in the hunt for Enrique, who has hinted that he’ll make a decision on his decision at the end of the season, but they will now face competition from Milan.
According to reports in Italy, the Rossoneri have been impressed with Enrique’s performances this season and are ready to break the bank with a £10m bid.
The interest in in form Newcastle United left back Jose Enrique refuses to subside and talk of the Spaniard wanting to wait until the end of the season before committing to an extended deal to stay at St James’ Park is only serving to further entice interest in the 25 year old.
AC Milan, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked with moves for the former Villarreal man who has been a top notch performer for the Magpies ever since his arrival at the club in August 2007 and is perhaps now in the form of his career to date.
Serie A table toppers Milan will look to make the first move and it will be interesting to see how Alan Pardew goes about convincing Enrique to stay. The talented full back will be looking to Newcastle United to invest the funds from the sale of Andy Carroll to help improve the overall quality of a squad that still needs additions to help improve many areas in the team.
A new striker would be very high up on Pardew’s priority list as would more creative midfielders but the club did splash the cash to help keep Cheik Tiote from pursuing a move to Chelsea, which is a good step in the right direction.
