Anfield and St James’ Park sides keen on Latics man, but why?

Liverpool face competition from Sunderland and Newcastle United in the race to sign winger Charles N’Zogbia.
The French international winger has been courted by a number of Barclays Premier League clubs amidst talk of a DW Stadium exit, with Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish thought to be one of those keen on bringing the player to Anfield.
N’Zogbia was close to leaving Wigan in both the summer and January, but a move to Birmingham City fell through and the 24-year-old has continued to impress with the Latics rather than Blues.
That’s left the door open for a number of clubs to show an interest in the player, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also thought to be keen on the player.
However, reports in the The Mirror claim Newcastle and Sunderland are now poised to make summer moves for the player, with the pair considering £11 million offers come the end of the season.

If you had to compile a list of overrated Premier League players then Charles N’Zogbia would surely make the cut. The former Newcastle United man was consistently linked with a ‘big’ move when he was at St James’ Park when his performances were at best inconsistent and at worst incredibly frustrating. So his big move was to bottom of the table Wigan and I think that says it all.
It seems that the Latics are open to offers for the French international but only ones that stretch to £10m+, which would in my view be a huge waste of money. Oh and the only reason he is a French international is because the 24 year old was awarded a cap when the entire World Cup squad was suspended, he has not been given a second bite at that particular cherry.
Very much an example of style over substance, N’Zogbia frequently plays the wrong ball and almost never passes when he feels he could go it alone, which usually ends in tears.
Would Newcastle United really want to re-sign a player who said “After four years at Newcastle, I want to reach a higher level of ambition. I don’t think that is possible here.” before moving to the DW Stadium! Alan Pardew already has a fantastic left winger in the form of Argentine international Jonas Gutierrez who is significantly better than the Wigan man.
The Magpies also have Hatem Ben Arfa to call upon when he is fit and healthy following his long term injury courtesy of a Nigel de Jong challenge. They also have other wing options in Wayne Routledge and Ryan Taylor.
Liverpool may well need a natural winger but I very much doubt Kenny Dalglish will turn to a player who far too often flatters to deceive and indeed the Anfield club sold Ryan Babel because he suffered with the same alarming level of inconsistency.
Currently the Merseyside club turns to the likes of Joe Cole, Maxi, Milan Jovanovic and Dirk Kuyt to play the wide roles and none of that quartet has quite produced what the club is looking for, but then will N’Zogbia?
