Arsenal would be willing to grant Cesc Fabregas his wish to join Barcelona this summer if the Catalan giants match their £45 million valuation, Goal.com UK can reveal.
The Premier League club privately accept that it will be almost impossible to hold on to Fabregas for another season against his wishes.
But Arsenal will only consider doing business if Barcelona make an offer for their prize asset and captain in the region of £45m.
The Spaniard’s desire to return to the club he left aged 16 remains as strong as it did last summer although his camp will not push for a transfer until the season finishes.
So there you have it. This source believes that Arsenal will not look to prevent their captain leaving the club as long as the fee they after is met. Seems unlikely to me that Arsene Wenger would admit defeat in this fashion, not least because Cesc Fabregas is a hugely important player and for the North London to meekly give in to the La Liga giants will not go down well with the Gunners supporters.
There is no doubt that Barcelona would like to take their former youth team player back but one does wonder exactly where Fabregas would fit into the all conquering Catalan side. It seems unclear how Xavi, Andres Iniesta and the Arsenal man could all play in the same midfield.
Arsenal supporters will be angered enough already if they fail to land any silverware for the sixth season running to then lose their skipper would put a lot of pressure on Wenger and the club’s board. Arsene Wenger will be under pressure to spend significant sums on established players this summer if they do not clinch the Premier League title.
There will be some who have grown tired of Wenger’s insistence on trying to unearth gems and unknowns in preference to spending big on players who can more easily bed in. The current system adopted by Arsenal is no doubt financially prudent but also leaves the club in a constant state of transition.
There has also been much speculation that Barcelona are also interested in Samir Nasri and that Andrei Arshavin may be on his way back to Russia whilst Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela could also be on their way out and this summer promises to be a big one for Wenger and Arsenal.
