On-loan Villa Park player could make St James’ Park debut after international break.
Newcastle United midfielder Stephen Ireland could make his long-awaited debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 2.
The 24-year-old joined on-loan from Aston Villa in January but has suffered from knee and thigh injuries which has stopped him playing.
He is currently embroiled in controversy after he and two other squad players were photographed in a Newcastle nightclub on the eve of the 4-0 thrashing by Stoke City.
But Ireland is expected to start full training next week with a view to him playing in the home game against Wolves.
“Stephen Ireland will resume full training on Monday – he will join in with the group then and get a good week of training before Wolves, so we’re hopeful there,” Newcastle’s assistant manager John Carver said.
