Defender Rio Ferdinand and midfielder Anderson could return for Manchester United’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie against Chelsea.
Ferdinand has been out for two months with a calf injury while Anderson has been missing with a knee problem but both took part in training on Monday.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has no new injury worries going into the game at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Centre-back David Luiz [cup-tied] will be replaced by Branislav Ivanovic.
Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun and defender Alex both practised with their team-mates on Monday but Ancelotti said the pair are unlikely to play against United as they continue to build up their fitness levels having been out injured.
Meanwhile, striker Wayne Rooney missed part of United’s session to have treatment on a bruise on his shin, but full-back Rafael trained with the squad, having suffered a hamstring injury against Marseille.
Scotland international midfielder Darren Fletcher is still sidelined with a virus, while John O’Shea [hamstring] and Wes Brown [knock] were also absent.
But Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said his defensive problems were easing: “Johnny Evans is available for tomorrow, Ferdinand has been training for over a week, whether he is ready, I’m not sure.
“Rafael is available and O’Shea and Brown are back training.”
Chelsea boss Ancelotti will have to decide whether to continue with Didier Drogba in attack or bring back £50m forward Fernando Torres into the starting XI. The Spain striker began from the bench during the 1-1 draw at Stoke.
Drogba scored the equaliser at the Britannia Stadium, his first for the Blues in two months.(BBC Sport)
