White Hart Lane hero wants a return to the Champions League next season but knows there is a lot of work to do in the league.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson says his team must focus on the Premier League if they want to play Champions League football next season.
Spurs’ exit out of the European Cup at the hands of Real Madrid was confirmed by last night’s 1-0 defeat, which followed the 4-0 thrashing at the Bernabeu a week earlier.
Tottenham are currently in fifth, three points behind Manchester City, and qualification for the Champions League, but with a game in hand.
Dawson believes there are a lot of positives to be taken from the Real Madrid defeat but wants to ensure their participation in Europe’s premier competition was not a one-off.
“We gave it our all and you could not ask anymore of the lads,” Dawson told Sky Sports.
“The first half hour we were well in the game going to get the goals, we had a couple of penalty shouts, a goal disallowed, but it just wasn’t to be.
“Without a shadow of a doubt it was a disappointing night over there but here we put on a good performance and the journey is over.
“We must concentrate on the Premier League and try and make sure we are in the Champions League next year.
“It’s been a great experience and the lads are hungry for more next year and let’s hope we can achieve that.
“We have some important games coming up and hopefully we can still be up there and we believe we can.”
