White Hart Lane boss prepares for the worst.
Redknapp has stated that “Getting in that top four is a bonus,”
“Every year the same four teams got into the Champions League apart from the one year that Everton broke in and then we broke in ahead of Liverpool.
“Now, suddenly, there’s Man City and they want to be in there every year too. Getting in the top four is going to be harder and harder every season.”
“We’re in a position where we still have a chance,” he added.
“It’s going to be tight but we have to keep going. We have the tougher run-in than Man City but it’s a good end to the season, it’s something we’re looking forward to, we’re fighting to achieve something, that’s all you can ask.”
It is probably sensible to attempt to nip this in the bud now as the Premier League enters the final straight and Harry Redknapp is right to say that Tottenham supporters need to remember that the progress of the North London club has been very speedy and that a fifth place finish would be no disaster but there is still every chance that the White Hart Lane club can crack the top four again and they have some huge games coming up against Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool.
The only fear could be that some of the club’s top talent will be targeted by Europe’s elite if Champions League football is not secured with the likes of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart, Luka Modric and Sandro all linked with summer exits.
