Eastlands star to get his wish to leave Manchester and could be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is lining up a sensational player plus cash swap offer for Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez.
The Manchester Evening News reports the Russian billionaire wants the Argentine to form a dream partnership with Fernando Torres.
Tevez has wanted to leave Eastlands for a long time and even handed in a transfer request earlier in December before being convinced to stay until the summer by manager Roberto Mancini.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a string of top European clubs but Chelsea are one of the few that could afford to buy him as well as pay his wages.
Inter Milan were rumoured to have held discussions with the player’s represntatives but the president Massimo Moratti distanced himself from any move.
City’s hierarchy are hoping that with Champions League qualification virtually guaranteed, Tevez, who has three years left on his current deal, will agree to stay.
Mancini wants to keep hold of his talisman and captain but would accept a sensational £40million plus Didier Drogba as a replacement, to fund an assault on the Premier League and European Cup.
It is unclear whether Carlo Ancelotti is in favour of the move, after publicly supporting Drogba in recent months by claiming he wants the Ivorian to stay.
But the 33-year-old has only one year left on his contract and is unlikely to be offered another to stay at Stamford Bridge.
