Serie A side want misfiring Emirates Stadium attacker.
Lazio are lining up a £9million offer for Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.
The Morocco international, who signed on a free from Bordeaux last summer, enjoyed a productive start to his Arsenal career but his form has tailed off in recent months because of a lack of first-team chances.
Now sources in Italy have revealed that Lazio have made Chamakh, who has not scored a Premier League goal since November, their No.1 summer transfer target.
French club Marseille and an unnamed English club are also understood to be keen on the striker, but Lazio president Claudio Lotito is ready to sanction an offer worth around £9m at the end of the season.
When Marouane Chamakh first turned out for Arsenal he couldn’t put a foot wrong. The Moroccan was scoring freely and appeared to have adapted well the pace and physicality of the game but a mixture of niggling injuries and a severe drop in form will have left Arsene Wenger wondering if it isn’t worth cashing in on a player that cost the club nothing last summer.
Lazio have improved greatly this term and they may just scrape into the Champions League if they win their final two Serie A matches and if the Rome club are willing to make an offer of £9m for a 27 year old who hasn’t scored in his last 12 Premier League appearances, then the Gunners boss may take the money and run.
There are also reports that the likes of Gael Clichy, Manuel Almunia, Emmanuel Eboue and Andrei Arshavin could be allowed to leave for the right price this summer as the North London club looks to freshen up it’s squad ahead of next term.
