Anfield side said to be leading chase for Wigan wide-man, but why?
Liverpool will look to land Wigan winger Charles N’Zogbia if they fail in their efforts to sign Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.
Villa want to keep hold of their England man but there is uncertainty over the future at Villa Park, with questions marks over Gerard Houllier’s position as manager, that may or may not help in Liverpool’s efforts to land him and they could instead turn to N’Zogbia.
Wigan face a massive battle to keep hold of the French ace as there is a long list of clubs all willing to offer £7m to land the player if they are relegated, while if they stay up then the Latics will hope to keep him. (Setanta)
Clearly Kenny Dalglish has his sights set on Aston Villa wing pair Stewart Downing and Ashley Young but even as a third choice option a move for Wigan wide man Charles N’Zogbia seems odd. The French international is always linked with moves to ‘big’ clubs but left Newcastle United thinking he could make it somewhere ‘better’ and ended up at struggling Wigan.
Quite why Liverpool would opt to move for the 24 year old is beyond me. N’Zogbia is very much a confidence player who vanishes in and out of matches and is not all that consistent and is known for picking the wrong options when in promising situations….yes he sounds a lot like….Ryan Babel.
We are told that a number of clubs want the pint sized winger, the likes of Tottenham and even Juventus are said to have an interest, but do they? Could this be a cruel trick on behalf of the player’s agent?
Dalglish clearly wants natural wingers at the club as he believes they will more easily provide ammunition for his strike pairing of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll and that seems a fair assumption as for all the hard work Dirk Kuyt does, he is not a prolific assist maker, the same can be said of Maxi, who has started scoring regularly in recent weeks but may still be seen as a player the Merseyside club can improve on, however a move for N’Zogbia would not be an improvement.
