Arsene Wenger looks to bring Ivory Coast striker to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal to offer €17m for Lille’s Gervinho – report
Forward has been on the radar of Liverpool and Spurs but has already said he wants to play for a club in the Champions League after impressive season in Ligue 1
Arsenal will reportedly have to spend €17 million if they want to defeat the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton to the signature of Lille striker Gervinho.
Liverpool reportedly made an £11m (€12.5m) offer to recruit the Ivory Coast player which Lille rejected insisting they want at least £15m (€17m) for their star striker.(Goal.com)
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is on the look out for alternative attacking options and is reportedly closing in on Lille striker Gervinho. The 24 year old netted 15 goals and laid on 9 assists to Lille to their first domestic title in over 50 years and is now being pursued by a number of European outfits.
Will Gunners supporters be happy with such an acquisition or are they keen to see their club make moves for established talents and big name talents. Wenger brought in Marouane Chamakh last summer on a free transfer and whilst the Moroccan started the season well his form dipped badly and may well be sold in the summer with Marseille said to be interested.
Robin Van Persie bears the brunt of the striking load and when the Dutchman is fully fit and firing on all cylinders there are few better players in his position in the world. Unfortunately for both Arsenal and the former Feyenoord man, he is routinely out for months of almost every season, leaving the club having to depend on the less consistent talents of the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela.
Clearly Arsenal fans will welcome the addition of more firepower but is Gervinho the answer? Prior to his move to Lille he had managed fairly average returns for Beveren and Le Mans and his record at international level is not much better netting five goals in 19 appearances.
