Sir Alex Ferguson makes ambitious attempt to bring Bernabeu star to Old Trafford.
Sources have claimed that Man United have registered their interest in Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil. The German international is known to be a player that Sir Alex Ferguson admires greatly and Spanish newspaper Marca has reported that the Old Trafford boss has approached the midfielder’s agent about a possible move to the Premier League champions
However Ozil’s representative Reza Fazeli has stated that his client has no interest in a move away from the Bernabeu and is “very happy” at the La Liga giants. The 22 year old had initially struggled to make an impact at Real Madrid during his debut season at the club but then quickly found his feet to become a hugely important part of Jose Mourinho’s plans.
Ozil laid on 17 assists in La Liga alone, only Lionel Messi managing more, and also kept Brazilian international Kaka out of the first team picture after the former AC Milan had recovered from a long term injury.
Real Madrid failed to wrestle the La Liga crown from arch rivals Barcelona and also fell to the Catalan side in the Champions League but did manage to secure their first Copa Del Rey triumph in 18 years. Ozil was one of Mourinho’s first signings when he nabbed the youngster for around €15m from Werder Bremen.
Ferguson is looking to bring in more creativity to his midfield after seeing Paul Scholes announce his retirement. The Scot has also been strongly linked with moves to sign Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder and has reportedly offered the San Siro club winger Nani in part exchange for the Dutchman.
