White Hart Lane boss keen on Old Trafford veteran.
Tottenham will attempt to lure Man United defender Rio Ferdinand to the North London club this summer. White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp is hopeful that he could persuade his former West Ham charge to leave Old Trafford after seeing Sir Alex Ferguson sign Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones this week.
The 32 year old England international has suffered with niggling injuries over the past 18 months and started just 19 Premier League matches last term leaving Sir Alex Ferguson to turn to youngster Chris Smalling for large spells of last season. The former Fulham man has shown maturity beyond his years and may be a first team regular next term.
Ferdinand may therefore feel that the time is right to leave Man United and reunite with Redknapp, the manager who helped shape the Londoner’s hugely successful career.
Harry Redknapp has had severe problems with his selection of central defenders but may feel a move for Rio Ferdinand is a risk worth taking given that on his day the Man United man is still one of the best in the business. His current crop of centre backs have had serious problems staying fit with the likes of Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King consistently sidelined.
Tottenham also have the services of Michael Dawson, William Gallas and Sebastien Bassong to call upon but Ferdinand is a player Redknapp would dearly love to snap up.
