Stadium of Light club tell rivals they can buy star.
Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has been put on the transfer market after his club emailed potential bidders telling them he is up for sale.
The 25-year-old only joined the Black Cats last summer in a £15million move from Rennes and scored 10 goals in his debut Premier League season.
The Ghana international is being sold to raise funds to buy new players, despite the £20million sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool, according to the Daily Mirror.
Gyan’s availability was flashed to leading Premier League clubs – and outfits abroad – as the surprise player in a list of ‘for sale’ talent sent out by an agent close to the club.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is looking for around £20million for Gyan with Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid interested in acquiring his services.
The news will come as a shock to Sunderland’s fans who have seen Henderson go and are awaiting the arrival of several new faces as Bruce builds a new team.
Manchester United trio Darron Gibson, John O’Shea and Wes Brown are close to moving to the Stadium of Light with Craig Gardner and David Ngog also on the Bruce’s radar.
