Anfield target hopes Emirates Stadium boss will allow him to make Premier League switch.
Clichy wants Liverpool move despite Roma’s bumper offer for Arsenal defender
Gael Clichy will try to force through a move to Liverpool despite Roma dangling wages of £30million in front of the Arsenal defender.
Clichy has just one year left on his contract in north London and is set to leave after talks stalled on a new deal.
Serie A big guns Roma have offered £7m – £2m more than Liverpool, and are prepared to pay the 25-year-old full-back £30m over five years.
But France international Clichy would prefer a move to Anfield.
Kenny Dalglish is desperate to sign a left-back after using England international Glen Johnson out of position last term.
Paul Konchesky has failed to impress since arriving from Fulham and was shipped out to Nottingham Forest on loan while Fabio Aurelio struggled for much of last season with injuries.

Liverpool are apparently very keen to snap up Arsenal’s contract rebel and are willing to offer a £90k a week five year deal to the French international, which is still short of what Roma are reportedly willing to offer the 25 year old left back, but Gael Clichy is so desperate to stay in the Premier League that he is apparently happy to accept the Merseyside club’s offer.
Arsene Wenger however may have other ideas. The Gunners boss does not want to sell to a rival Premier League side and as with recent speculation linking his star turns Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas with moves away from the Emirates Stadium, the French boss is adamant that he will only accept offers from abroad for Clichy.
Kenny Dalglish is very keen to land the talented left back and Director of Football Damien Comolli, who had a hand in bringing Clichy to Arsenal from Cannes back in 2003 when he was the European Scout for the North London side.
Liverpool are now looking to complete the deal to sign the experienced French international and have placed Clichy at the top of the club’s wish-list having been strongly linked with moves to sign Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique.
Wenger is keen to not lose Clichy for nothing next summer and may well then opt to offload the 25 year old to Liverpool in order to prevent a long drawn out saga that could end up affecting the dressing room. The Arsenal boss is also trying to cut some deadwood from his squad in order to finance moves for much needed additions.
The likes of Manuel Almunia, Emmanuel Eboue, Nicklas Bendtner and Andrei Arshavin may be sacrificed as Wenger looks to beef up his defence and bring in further attacking options to support Robin Van Persie up front.
The total cost of Liverpool’s offer would come to £28.4m, made up of a £5m transfer fee and £23.4m in wages over the course of a five year deal, and the club’s American owners are more than willing to meet such demands just as long as Dalglish looks to also offload under performing members of his squad.
To that end it is reported that Paul Konchesky will be offloaded with Wolves said to be interested. Milan Jovanovic and Christian Poulsen are said to be available to interested parties and the likes of Joe Cole and David N’Gog may also be sold to help balance the books.
Liverpool have already spent in excess of £75m on the signings of Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson since the turn of the year.
