New Stamford Bridge boss plans White Hart Lane raid.
Newly installed Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is readying his first forays into the transfer market as Blues boss and will immediately look to make an offer for Tottenham pair Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to flex his financial muscles this summer and will hand Villas-Boas a substantial transfer funds to help in his dream to see his West London side clinch their maiden Champions League title whilst also looking to bridge the gap to Premier League champions Man United.
Croatian international Modric has already publicly voiced his intentions to leave White Hart Lane and has stated his interest in the short move to Chelsea. Tottenham are now set to offer the 25 year old a massive wage hike but that is apparently not likely to persuade the former Dynamo Zagreb to remain at the North London club.
Some sources have stated today that Gareth Bale will look to leave Tottenham is they fail to keep hold of Modric and that will be music to Villas-Boas’s ears as he intends on making an offer for the 21 year old Welsh international winger.
These are worrying times for Harry Redknapp as he in some ways pays for his side’s speedy success. Clinching a spot in the top four two seasons ago and then failing to repeat that act last term may well have left a few players considering exits.
Man United were also said to be interested in Bale but having signed Ashley Young earlier this month there interest in the young wide-man has diminished.
Harry Redknapp has already admitted that his ambitions to bring in the top quality additions the club may need to push back into the top four are dependent on the club selling more players before they can buy.
Redknapp was quoted as saying “There is nothing happening in the transfer market. I need to sell four or five players to bring in funds. The chairman has made it clear we need to move a few players before we can start doing any business.”
The Tottenham boss had hoped to secure funding from selling some of his squad players with the likes of Darren Bentley, Robbie Keane, Giovani dos Santos, Niko Kranjcar and Wilson Palacios among those he was looking to cash in on, but no significant offers have been forthcoming.
Chelsea are looking to freshen up their squad and having brought in David Luiz and Fernando Torres in January are also expected to offload players and senior players such as Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Paulo Ferriera, Nicolas Anelka and Yossi Benayoun have been linked with Stamford Bridge exits.
