Stamford Bridge owner not interested in Bernabeu offer.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has blocked an £18million bid from Real Madrid for midfielder Michael Essien.
Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with his former Stamford Bridge stalwart to add steel and drive to his Bernabeu midfield.
The ‘Special One’ signed Essien in 2005 for £24.4million and the 28-year-old has four years left on his current £110,000-a-week contract and is happy to stay in West London.
But Abramovich is adamant the Ghana international will be going nowhere this summer and will reject any price that is offered.
A top Chelsea source said: “Abramovich is not going to sell.”
Meanwhile new Chelsea manager, Andre Villas-Boas, has begun re-organising his back up staff with the appointment of Roberto di Matteo as his assistant manager.
The Italian played for Chelsea for six years up until 2002 and has been out of work since being sacked as manager by West Bromwich Albion in February.
He will replace Paul Clement, coach for two years with Carlo Ancelotti, who has been put on gardening leave.
It is reported that Gianfranco Zola could also be joining Villas-Boas’ support team.
