White Hart Lane club raid Latin America.
Tottenham Hotspur will make striker Antonio Pedroza Whitham their second summer signing, following the arrival of Brad Friedel from Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old is out of contract with Mexican club Jaguares meaning Spurs will only have to pay a nominal fee of around £750,000 for his services.
Manager Harry Redknapp has been to South America to watch the starlet play and sent a glowing report to chairman Daniel Levy.
The White Hart Lane supremo sent a delegation to Mexico to sign the striker but faced competition after Cruz Azul had believed they had signed Pedroza Whitham for £1.3million.
But the youngster preferred a move to England, where he was born in Cheshire – his mother and sister still live in the area – according to the Daily Mirror.
Levy has signed Pedroza Whitham on a four-year contract but the club has not had much success with Mexican players.
Giovanni dos Santos was signed as a star of the future but has not established himself for Tottenham in the three-years he has been at the club despite impressive performances for his national team.
Redknapp is still looking for a marquee striker to bolster his squad with Diego Forlan, Giuseppe Rossi and Daniel Sturridge all on his radar.
