Villa Park star wants Anfield move.
Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing will hand in a transfer request this week to force through his £20million move to Liverpool.
The 26-year-old is due to hold showdown talks with boss Alex McLeish and will break the bad news at the meeting.
The England international has two years left on his current contract but is desperate to fulfil his ambitions of playing at the highest level.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is an admirer of Downing and is wants to add more natural width to his squad to supply the ammunition for strikers Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
Despite some interest from Arsenal it seems Downing has set his heart on a move to Anfield and is determined to get his way.
“Stewy has made up his mind – he wants to go to Liverpool and hopes Villa will agree to let him leave,” a friend of Downing’s told the Sun.
McLeish does want to keep Downing but his exit will mean the Scot will make a £10million bid to sign Charles N’Zogbia from Wigan Athletic.
