Anfield flop on his way to Loftus Road.
Premiership newcomers QPR are reported to be interested in both Newcastle United’s Wayne Routledge and Liverpool’s Joe Cole as they look to remain a Premiership side after their first season in the top flight.
It appears the West London side wish to add some attacking presence to the side by making enquiries regarding the availability of Joe Cole and 26 year old winger Routledge.
For Cole it may be a chance to gain more first team football. His chances at Liverpool were few and far between although a vast majority that time was spent on the treatment table. Another issue for QPR is Joe Cole’s wages which the current board will not authorise for a player nearing 30 and now so susceptible to injury.
Should Joe Cole take a drop in wages and Wayne Routledge discover that QPR could be his best option this summer, then the Championship winners will have two very attack minded talents on their books.
By all accounts Joe Cole may well be on his way back to London after one year at Anfield as Kenny Dalglish weighs up offers for the former Chelsea man. Liverpool are thought to be angling for around £6m for the 30 year old who arrived at the club for nothing a year ago. The price appears to be one that QPR are willing to pay and now all they have to do is persuade the attacking midfielder to move to the West London club.
Another factor could be the rather large wage demands Joe Cole will make to move to Loftus Road, as well as a release clause should Neil Warnock’s side get relegated in their first season back in the top flight. QPR are of course bankrolled by various millionaires and billionaires so the issue of money should not stand in the way of this deal coming to fruition.
Cole barely figured for Liverpool once Kenny Dalglish arrived on the scene and it seems fairly likely that if the experienced midfielder opts to stay on Merseyside he will spend a great deal of time warming the bench.
Liverpool boss Dalglish is also reportedly looking to offload a number of other under performing stars and will listen to offers for Christian Poulsen, Paul Konchesky, David N’Gog, Milan Jovanovic and Maxi Rodriguez.
QPR may also face a battle to keep hold of hugely influential playmaker Adel Taarabt who is now a target for Ligue 1 side PSG, hence the need to make a move for Joe Cole.
