Old Trafford boss ready to make White Hart Lane manager a tempting offer.
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly preparing to make an offer for long term target Luka Modric and the Old Trafford boss is willing to offer two of his players as well as cash to tempt Tottenham into selling the Croatian international.
Man United have already spent over £50m this summer on the purchases of Blackburn Rovers youngster Phil Jones, Aston Villa winger Ashley Young and Spanish keeper David de Gea but Ferguson is very keen on bringing in Tottenham’s creative midfielder Modric and is hopeful he can beat the advances from Chelsea and Man City for the former Dynamo Zagreb man.
Modric has already publicly stated his intention to leave White Hart Lane and though Spurs boss Harry Redknapp does not want to lose such a crucial member of his starting line-up he may well feel he has no choice other than to get as good a deal as possible for the talented 25 year old.
Ferguson is willing to offer Redknapp former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov and Northen Irish international defender Jonny Evans as well as around £10-12m to help persuade the North London club to sell.
Redknapp is seemingly desperate to improve his striking options after seeing his entire quartet of strikers (Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko) fail to make an impact last season and having reportedly failed in a number of moves for continental reinforcements the offer of last season’s joint top Premier League scorer may be of interest.
Man United centre back Evans could also be of good use given the myriad of problems have had filling that position over the past couple of years. The likes of Ledley King, William Gallas and Michael Dawson have all had time out with injuries and Jonathan Woodgate was not offered a new deal and has therefore left the club with few viable options at the back.
Ferguson is keen to bring in more signings this summer but having spent large sums already feels that the best way to pursue further additions is to offer players in exchange. The Man United boss is also set to sell John O’Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland.
