Old Trafford star on his way to the Stadium of Light.
Manchester United defender John O’Shea is on the verge of becoming Sunderland’s seventh summer signing after undergoing a medical at the Stadium of Light.
The 30-year-old is in Wearside to have the tests and will join up with team-mate Wes Brown, who had his Black Cats medical last night.
The pair, along with midfielder Darron Gibson, will all move to the Stadium of Light from the English champions in a £12million triple swoop, according to Press Association Sport.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has already made six summer signings, including Seb Larsson and Craig Gardner from Birmingham.
Coventry City’s Keiren Westwood, South Korean striker Ji Dong-Won, Ipswich Town’s Connor Wickham and Egyptian winger Ahmed Elmohamady have also been signed.
Bruce wants Brown, 31, and O’Shea to add experience to a Sunderland defence that was badly affected by injuries last season.
Red Devils counterpart Gibson, 23, has indicated he would seriously consider a move to the north-east but that deal appears to have become the most problematic.
But despite this Bruce is still confident of signing all three stars by next week, which should signal the end of his transfer business for this window.
