Anfield boss keen on Wigan winger.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is reportedly ready to switch his attention from Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing to Wigan wide man Charles N’Zogbia after the Midlands side reportedly slapped a £20m price tag on the England international.
Dalglish is keen to continue his summer spending as he looks to improve his Anfield squad ahead of the new season and having already purchased Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam from Sunderland and Blackpool respectively the Scot was keen to nab Downing from Villa Park but appears unwilling to meet the valuation and is now preparing a bid for N’Zogbia.
The 25 year old French international has been a key player at the DW Stadium and last season was influential in keeping Roberto Martinez’s side above the drop zone but even the club’s chairman Dave Whelan has stated that Wigan may struggle to keep hold of the former Newcastle United man.
N’Zogbia finished last term as Wigan’s top scorer and his pace and trickery down the flanks appear to appeal to Dalglish and Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli and would be available for a fee in the region of £10m.
Liverpool are keen to bring in more natural width to their attack and N’Zogbia can play out on either wing and his adaptability could make him an ideal capture. Last term the Merseyside club turned to a number of options with the likes of Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez, Joe Cole, Milan Jovanovic and Ryan Babel, before his sale to Hoffenheim, all being used to fill what has become something of a problem area for the club.
