Old Trafford boss inches closer to landing big name signing.
WESLEY SNEIJDER is ready to sign for Manchester United this week in a club record £35million deal.
And the Inter Milan midfielder is expected to agree a bumper contract that would eclipse even Wayne Rooney’s £220,000 a week.
A team-mate said: “Everyone expects Wesley’s move to United to be announced soon, maybe as early as Wednesday.”
Sneijder’s arrival will take United boss Alex Ferguson’s summer spending to more than £85m – just £5m more than he picked up when he sold Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in July 2009.
Inter are resigned to cashing in on the 27-year-old Dutchman.
The source added: “He has even spoken to Dutch international team-mate Nigel de Jong to find out where are the best places to live in Manchester.
“It all looks imminent, no matter what Inter or Wesley may say in public.
“It seems Inter want to sell but don’t want to admit it, while Wesley wants to go but doesn’t want to say it. It’s a good move for him and good business for Inter.”
Sneijder joined the Italians from Real Madrid in 2009 and helped them win the Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia in his first season in Milan.
But injuries restricted him to just 25 appearances last term, as Inter finished runners-up to neighbours AC in the race for the Serie A crown.

The speculation about a move from San Siro to Old Trafford for Dutch international Wesley Sneijder is definitely growing and there appears to be some meat to these rumour bones as a number of sources both in Italy and England appear to suggest that talks between the two clubs are ongoing and that Sir Alex Ferguson is very much pushing to complete what he considers the jewel in the crown of his summer spending.
Having already snapped up Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea from Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid respectively, Ferguson is willing to spend huge sums of money to land the Inter Milan midfielder and will offer the former Real Madrid a four year contract worth around £225k a week which would run to a total of £46.8m for the entire contract.
There have been conflicting statements coming from the Sneijder camp with some sources claiming the flair player has no intention of leaving the Serie A giants and other sources stating that he will look to force through a move to the Premier League champions.
Ferguson is looking for a long term replacement for the Paul Scholes of old, a goal scoring midfielder who ably links midfield and attack. The likes of current central midfielders Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Anderson do not offer much of a goal threat and lack creativity, hence the need for Ferguson to chase Sneijder, having previously targeted Luka Modric and Samir Nasri.
The Man United boss is trying to trim his squad further to help make room for new arrivals and having already sold John O’Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland and sent Bebe on loan to Besiktas will look to offload more of his squad players with the likes of Darron Gibson, Jonny Evans, Tomasz Kuszczak and Gabriel Obertan all being surplus to requirements.
