Emirates Stadium star on Bernabeu radar.
Real Madrid are preparing to make a bid to sign Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie as Jose Mourinho looks to boost his Bernabeu attacking options. The La Liga giants will hope to take advantage of any instability at the North London club that exists due to the reported interest in Gunners stars Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas.
Mourinho will want to avoid a repeat of last season when his striking options were severely tested following a long term injury sustained by Argentine international Gonzalo Higuain which led initially to Real Madrid handing a regular starting spot to misfiring Frenchman Karim Benzema and was followed by the decision to draft in Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a loan deal.
£30m rated Robin Van Persie had the most productive season of his Arsenal career last term despite the fact that the Dutchman once again missed a portion of the season due to another bout out due to injury. The 27 year old notched up an impressive 22 goals from just 26 starts in all competitions.
Arsene Wenger is steadfastly sticking to his guns in relation to persistent interest in both Nasri and Fabregas but the Arsenal boss will hope that he can appease all his star performers with the addition of new signings and to this end has brought in Ivory Coast international Gervinho to help Van Persie up front.
Marouane Chamakh was drafted in last summer to play a similar role and after a good start the Moroccan went off the boil and it appears that Nicklas Bendtner will be sold this summer and Wenger will hope that Carlos Vela can make an impact to help boost the North London club’s attacking options.
Van Persie is now one of Arsenal’s longest serving players but since his arrival in 2004 the former Feyenoord front man has only garnered a FA Cup winners medal so may be tempted by a move to the Spanish giants.
