Emirates Stadium boss looks confused by this rather strange rumour doing the rounds.
Arsenal are considering a move for Barcelona full-back Eric Abidal after talks over new deal stalled.
Wenger has previously hinted that he might not invest in a left-back replacement for Gael Clichy, as he justified the capabilities of Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore and Thomas Vermaelen in that position.
However Abidals experience and ability to play across the backline may tempt Wenger into making a bid for the versatile performer.
The Catalan giants hinted towards the end of last season that they were prepared to hand the France defender fresh terms but according to his representative talks are at a standstill.
Gunners boss Arsene is now understood to be weighing up a move for Abidal,32, who only has a year remaining on his current deal and could be available for as little as £3m.
Can’t see this happening. Arsene Wenger is known for trusting to youth and whilst he has been known on occasion to opt for experience, Sol Campbell (second time) and Mikel Silvetre signings spring to mind, a move to sign Barcelona defender Eric Abidal seems something of a long shot.
It is true that Arsenal need a defensive shake up after their back line conceded as many goals last season than they have in any Premier League season but would Wenger opt to make a move for Barcelona veteran Abidal, a move that seems even more unlikely when you factor in the strained relationship between the two sides due to the ongoing Cesc Fabregas saga.
Last summer Wenger opted to bring in French centre backs Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci and neither impressed greatly, there failings combined with the loss of Thomas Vermaelen for almost the entire season left the North London club struggling defensively.
Now that Gael Clichy has departed some also believe the Gunners will be looking for a new left back as well but the fact that Wenger has England international Kieran Gibbs to call upon as well as Armand Traore may mean such a move is not so urgent.
Abidal battled back from having a tumour removed from his liver last season but is apparently struggling to agree a new deal with the Nou Camp side and the 32 year old has been locked in discussions with Barcelona for quite some time, that said, it seems likely that the former Monaco, Lille and Lyon man will stay at the Catalan giants, after all, why would anyone want to leave Pep Guardiola’s side right now?
