Stadium of Light enforcer will not be going to Anfield.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has dismissed speculation linking midfielder Lee Cattermole with a £9million switch to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield for quite some time before the Reds turned their attention to his team-mate Jordan Henderson.
Recent reports suggest Cattermole was unhappy about having his captain’s armband given to new signing John O’Shea and was keen for a move away from the north-east.
Bruce has rubbished the entire story though, insisting the Reds have never even spoken of the former England U21 international.
“I don’t know where that has come from,” He told the Journal. “It’s news to me.
“I have not even thought about this situation, to be honest. I have had bigger things on my plate to worry about.
“We have been dealing with Liverpool for the past five weeks over the Jordan Henderson deal and there was never a mention that they wanted Lee.
“I don’t know where it’s coming from at all.”
Bruce also ruled himself out of a move for Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia, who is expected to move to Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £10 million.
The Sunderland boss admits he was interested, but “it has become a bit too rich for us.”
