Anfield side keen on Sevilla wide-man.
Liverpool eyeing intelligent move for excellent Spain winger
Liverpool’s search for a right winger has led them to seriously consider a bid for Sevilla’s Jesus Navas.
The Reds have filled the vacany on the left flank with the £20m signing of Stewart Downing from Aston Villa and now want to provide balance on the opposite side of the field in a formation that resonates with traditional English football tactics.
The £22m-rated wide man has been identified as a target.
Although the Spanish influence at Anfield has waned since the departure of Rafael Benitez, Liverpool will try to convince Navas that he will receive all the support he needs should he decide to make the switch.
Indeed Jesus Navas would need a great deal of support from those at Anfield if the Spaniard did indeed opt for a move to Merseyside, because the 25 year old is said to suffer from chronic homesickness that has seemingly hamstrung his career somewhat.
The talented winger has been at Sevilla since the age of 15 and was born and raised in the province and though many club’s have been linked with the Spanish international, up to now no one has managed to convince the wide man to leave.
After two successive seasons in the Champions League, Sevilla managed a fifth place finish last term and as such there has been talk of potential player exits from the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and the likes of Renato and Didier Zokora have already left the club this summer.
Liverpool have of course signed Stewart Downing to plough down the left, where previously Kenny Dalglish has to rely on the likes of Joe Cole, Maxi Rodriguez and Milan Jovanovic, it seems that Scot now wants to address the right hand side of his attack.
Dirk Kuyt was converted into a right winger by Rafa Benitez and it’s a role he manfully fills, showing great determination and ability but he is still very much a make-shirt solution to a problem that Dalglish wants to address. The Liverpool boss clearly likes old fashioned wingers and feels that way he can best provide ammunition for the strike pairing of Luis Suarez and more importantly, because of his aerial strength, Andy Carroll.
Navas has notched up over 300 appearances for Sevilla and perhaps he could be persuaded to try a new challenge and perhaps the fact that the Premier League club has fellow Spanish international Pepe Reina at the club would assist in such a move?
