Stamford Bridge club want Nou Camp star
Chelsea are on the verge of signing Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu to replace injured star Michael Essien.
The 19-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, has found first-team appearances hard to come by with Sergio Busquets blocking his path.
The Spain U20 international has only one-year left on his contract with Chelsea able to get him for the relatively small amount of £3million.
Romeu was originally planned to be part of a Nou Camp double swoop along with Thiago Alcantara, but the playmaker signed a contract extension until 2015, according to the Independent.
Manager Pep Guardiola gave Romeu his first-team debut at the start of last season but he returned to the reserves for the remainder of the campaign.
He recovered from a right knee-ligament injury that kept him out for four months to finish the season impressively at centre-back.
Blues boss Andre Villas has called for calm from fans who are eager to see new signings come in.
“Let us wait and see; you know how frantic the market gets in the last week of August,” said Villas-Boas.
“I know the fans want excitement and radical changes but it is important we sit back and assess things.”
