Old Trafford boss keen on Costa Rican youngster.
Manchester United are interested in Deportivo Saprissa striker Joel Campbell.
The 19 year-old striker pulled out of a move to Arsenal last week, despite Saprissa accepting a £900,000 bid from the Gunners.
Campbell wants to wait until after the U20 World Cup before deciding on his next move.
United are aware of the transfer breakdown and have registered their interest with Campbell’s camp.
Whilst Joel Campbell appears to have scuppered his chances to join Arsenal following his inability to arrive on time to a medical, the Costa Rican international is now interesting Sir Alex Ferguson who appears to be keen on continuing his heavy summer spending.
The teenage striker has had a busy summer starting with a starring role in the Gold Cup where he impressed greatly before then taking part in the Copa America, scoring in both competitions and proving that the youngster has progressed from his Under 20 international performances that saw San Jose born striker score regularly.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already snapped up Phil Jones, David de Gea and Ashley Young from Blackburn Rovers, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa respectively and he may feel that he could not afford to turn down a move to sign a player with great potential for less than £1m, a bargain that may be too good to pass up.
Clearly Man United have a number of attacking options but given that Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen are both over 30 then Ferguson may be looking for younger options for the future. The Old Trafford boss has Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez as his preferred strike pairing as well as youngster Daniel Welbeck, who may once again be farmed out on loan this summer.
