Emirates Stadium boss keen to strike a deal to finally end Nou Camp saga.
Arsenal ‘want Thiago Alcantara’ as part of Cesc Fabregas transfer
Arsenal will tell Barcelona that Thiago Alcantara must be part of any deal to take Cesc Fabregas to the Camp Nou, according to a report.
Barca vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu is in London to try to negotiate a £33.5 million transfer that would allow Fabregas to join his childhood heroes.
Gunners officials value their club captain at £40 million, but are apparently now willing to consider a smaller cash sum, providing a promising player is included in the package.
The man Arsene Wenger wants is 20-year-old midfielder Thiago, reports the Sunday Express.
That may prove to be a major stumbling block in the negotiations, as Barca coach Pep Guardiola views the Spain Under-21s international as an important part of his plans for the new season.
It seems likely that if Barcelona want Cesc Fabregas as badly as they appear to, then this deal may be the best chance they have to lure their former youth team player back to the Nou Camp. This source clearly believes that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a big fan of up coming midfielder Thiago Alcantara is one for the future and Pep Guardiola will have to decide if the addition of the Spanish Under 21 international into a deal will tempt the Catalan side into sealing a deal.
The fact that Fabregas has missed out on all pre-season activity up to this point has led to much speculation that the Arsenal skipper may be on his way out, despite the fact that his absence is more likely to be as a result of the 24 year old looking to fully recover from injury.
Wenger has his hands full trying to keep Samir Nasri from leaving and would hope to bring the lengthy speculation about a Barcelona move for his captain to an end one way or the other, before the season begins in earnest.
Guardiola has already completed his move to sign Alexis Sanchez from Udinese and is apparently under orders to sell squad players before he can put in a decent offer for Fabregas, so an offer that would see Thiago move in the other direction may kill two birds with one stone, depending on how much the Barcelona manager rates the 20 year old.
Arsenal are themselves looking to ramp up their summer spending, having thus far brought in Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson. Wenger is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements and has been linked with bids for Christopher Samba and Phil Jagielka.
The likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Manuel Almunia and Emmanuel Eboue may be on their way out and Denilson has already left to join former club, Sao Paulo, on a season long loan deal.
