Villa Park get their DW Stadium target.
Aston Villa have agreed a £9.5million transfer fee for Wigan Athletic midfielder Charles N’Zogbia.
The Latics had rejected a £9million offer for the 25-year-old last week, but following discussions over the weekend, a compromise has been reached.
The Frenchman, who has a year left on his Wigan contract, will meet Villa chiefs to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical in the next 24 hours.
Villa boss Alex McLeish is a long-term admirer of N’Zogbia and tried to sign him while he was in charge of Midlands rivals Birmingham City.
The Scot finally has his man as he was keen to bring in a wide man to replace Ashley Young and Stewart Downing, who left for Manchester United and Liverpool respectively.
N’Zogbia will be reunited with his former Newcastle team-mate Shay Given, who became McLeish’s first signing in a £3.5million move from Manchester City.
A reported five-year deal is in place but N’Zogbia will have to wait to join up with his new team-mates, who are currently on a pre-season tour of Hong Kong.
Wigan are likely to re-invest the fee in a move for Leeds United’s £7million-rated Robert Snodgrass.
