Anfield boss ready to agree deal to send back up midfielder to Fiorentina.
Aquilani set for swift return to Serie A with Fiorentina
Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Serie A after Fiorentina offered to take the Liverpool midfielder on a season-long loan.
The Italy playmaker was recently praised by Liverpool owner John W Henry after his performance in a 6-3 win over Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
However, Liverpool have a surfeit of midfielders and Aquilani flew to Florence for talks.
Franco Zavaglia, the player’s agent, said: ‘Aquilani is still a Liverpool player. However, we have to understand what the project is there and speak with them.
‘After we will evaluate things. I don’t know if there is an agreement already between the two clubs.’

This was always on the cards and one would imagine that given Liverpool’s level of spending that Kenny Dalglish would prefer in many ways to secure a permanent move for midfielder Alberto Aquilani. The Italian international has impressed during pre-season and his professional attitude has earned the praise of co-owner John Henry and seems to have helped create interest from Serie A.
Juventus was unwilling to fork out the necessary asking price, despite the 27 year old impressing during a season long loan spell at the Turin club last season. Now it appears that Fiorentina are closing in on a deal to bring Aquilani to the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Boss Siniša Mihajlovi? will be looking to his Fiorentina side to improve on last season’s ninth place finish and has already brought in a few new faces whilst offloading the likes of Adrian Mutu, Gaetano D’Agostino and Mario Santana.
Aquilani will be looking to secure first team football so that he can maintain his place in the Italian national team set-up.
Whilst there is no doubting Alberto Aquilani’s talent, the arrival of Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson further slips the Italian down the pecking order. The likes of Raul Meireles, Steven Gerrard and Lucas were already ahead of the former Roma man.
