Mestalla star edges closer to Emirates move.
Arsenal are on the verge of clinching a £15million deal for Valencia winger Juan Mata with his family and representative’s flying into London yesterday.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates all summer and the deal could signal the end of captain Cesc Fabregas’ career with the Gunners.
The Barcelona-bound talisman will not be involved in this weekend’s Emirates Cup and will speak to manager Arsene Wenger about his future, according to the Daily Mirror.
Mata is seen as the natural replacement for his compatriot Fabregas as it means Samir Nasri can play in his favoured central role allowing room for Mata on the wing.
But the Spain U21 European Championship winner is versatile and can play as an attacking midfielder also.
Wenger is still hopeful he can persuade Nasri to sign another contract with the club.
The Frenchman has one-year left on his current deal and has attracted strong interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.
Barcelona have so far refused to match Arsenal’s £40million valuation for Fabregas after an initial £27million offer was rejected.
The Gunners’ skipper has been training alone this summer as he contniues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.
