Arsene Wenger keen to bring in further Emirates Stadium additions.
ARSENAL hope to seal a stunning £34million double swoop for Juan Mata and Phil Jagielka.
Valencia winger Mata has told friends he is joining the Gunners in a £19m deal.
And boss Arsene Wenger, rapped for not being more active in the transfer market, hopes to snap up Everton defender Jagielka with a £15m offer.
Arsenal’s £13m bid for Jagielka is set to be turned down – but they will make another immediate attempt to land the England centre-back.
Both buys will smash the club’s £12m record fee paid to Zenit in 2009 for Andrey Arshavin.
The arrival of Mata, 23, would be seen as a coup as Spurs have also launched a last-ditch bid.
Jagielka, 28, is expected to demand a four-year contract and wages of up to £100,000 a week.

Arsene Wenger is desperate to bring in new additions to his Emirates Stadium squad, whilst simultaneously trying to keep top performers Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri from leaving, indeed his hopes to improve his Gunners squad would presumably help appease the pair and prevent their departure for pastures new.
It seems that the area of the squad that needs most improvement is the club’s defence. Last term Arsenal conceded as many goals as they in any Premier League season since Wenger arrived at the club and it’s clear that the two centre backs the Frenchman brought in last summer, Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci, both failed to adapt to life in the English top tier.
This is why Everton’s Phil Jagielka continues to appear on the club’s radar. The England international has been a long term target for the North London club and this source believes Arsenal will up their bid and David Moyes may find it hard to prevent the 28 year from being tempted by a move to a ‘bigger’ club. The former Sheffield United defender may feel this is his last chance to secure a high profile move, a move that could help further his England ambitions whilst also giving the determined centre back a chance to prove himself at Champions League level.
One may wonder however if Wenger needs to bring in further attacking options but that has not prevented incessant speculation that Arsenal are closing in on adaptable Spanish international Juan Mata. The pint sized 23 year old can play as an orthodox striker or more commonly as a winger, which is where this source believes the Premier League club is looking to play the Valencia man.
There has been some talk of a possible move back to Russia for Andrei Arshavin and perhaps this is where Mata comes in. Arsenal do have a number of wide options including Theo Walcott, Samir Nasri, Arshavin and youngster Ryo Miyaichi, who reportedly may still be struggling to get a work permit and could therefore once again be loaned out to Feyenoord for the coming season.
Thus far Wenger has brought in Gervinho and Charlton Athletic full back Carl Jenkinson, and Arsenal fans will be hoping that their esteemed boss will bring in established star signings this summer and this pair may well be a good start.
