Kenny Dalglish linked with move to bring goal machine to Anfield.
Numerous reports from across the internet have linked Liverpool FC with a possible loan move for Uruguay and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.
The 32 year old is prepared to leave the Spanish capital this summer however Liverpool are not prepared to pay a transfer fee for a player with very little, if any, sell on value. His wages are currently very high and the Anfield club would be required to pay 100% of them if they really do wish the former United striker to join them.
As a former Manchester United player is remains to be seen whether the goal scorer – who was poor for United – would be a welcome addition to the Liverpool side. He scoring ability cannot be question whilst at Atletico but his form in the Premiership will not give fans too much optimism.
Now this would be something of a shock. Diego Forlan has been strongly linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon with clubs across the world interested in the Uruguayan international and now according to this source, a move to Anfield has been mooted.
32 year old Forlan is well remembered for his poor three and a half year spell at Man United but the prolific striker has spent seven seasons scoring goals at will in the La Liga. After netting 59 goals with the Yellow Submarines of Villarreal, the Montevideo born attacker has managed an incredible 96 goals in four seasons with Atletico Madrid but now appears set to leave the club.
His striker partner Sergio Aguero has also left Atletico, joining Man City earlier in the week, and of course Forlan’s international team-mate Luis Suarez is at Anfield, but would a move to Merseyside really be a possibility?
There is also reported interest from Tottenham as well as sides in the UAE and the MLS. Though clearly at the tail end of a hugely successful career Forlan was of course voted the player of the tournament at the 2010 World Cup and also helped Uruguay at Copa America glory this month, netting twice in the final against Paraguay.
Kenny Dalglish has been linked with moves to improve the club’s attacking options but may baulk at the player’s massive wage demands, thought to be in the region of £180k a week.
However money may not be an issue given that the club’s American owners have forked out over £100m on players in 2011, bringing in Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Doni, Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam to the Anfield.
The Liverpool boss has Suarez and Carroll as his first choice strike pairing and as back up can elect to convert right winger Dirk Kuyt back into a striker and has Frenchman David N’Gog as a further option as well as young Spaniard Daniel Pacheco, who is said to be desperate to forge a career at Anfield.
We feel that this move is highly unlikely to take place, not least because of the player’s Old Trafford connections which would probably preclude the player or indeed Liverpool Football Club, considering such a transfer.
